Walman and K. Salomon. From the Unsiversitv of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, N. Y. Arch. Biochem. arid! Bio )hys. 33: 168169, 1951. The authors report that acetate is rapidly incorporated! into the stronssa of the erythsrocvte and that there is a rapid turnover of the C’4-labeled constituents of the stroma. This is interpreted to mean that, unlike the circulating red cell hemoglobils, the labeled st-roma components are metabolically active and perhaps exchange with chsenucally identical plasma constituents. It is noted that the highest isotope concentrations in stronsa were observed in a splenectomized rabbit, suggesting that the catabolic phase of stronna metabolism is altered. These studies were carried out ins connsection with investigation of ans ansemia 1)roduced ins the rabbit by ligations of the splenic and gastric coronary veins.-(’.E.R. MECHANICAL FRAGILITY OF THALASSAEMIC ERYTHROCYTES. P. Tolentino. Frons the I)epartment of Pediatrics, University of Genoa, Italy. Londois, Nature 167: 905, 1951. The in vitro mechanical fragility of tens normal and tens thalassemic samples of blood was tested by shaking the blood with steel globules for 20 minutes in horizontal tubes in a Kahn shaker, specimens being removed periodically for red cell counst anid photometric (!etermination of solubilized hemoglobin. The results insdicate that thalassensic erythrocytes show decreased fragility to in vitro traumatization.-S.T.C. IN Vivo SURVIVAL OF RABBIT’S ItEm) CELLS RECOVERED AFTER FREEZING. H. A . Slon’iter. From the National Institute for Medical Research, Mill Hill, London, Ensglansd. Lancet 1: 1350-1351, 1951. Rabbit re(I blood cells were recovered! after freezing ins the presensce of glycerol ansd! storage at -79 C. for 2 hours, 20 !ays and! 42 (lays. They were labeled ins vitro with either 32 or Cr”. Samples were injected into the rabbitfrom which the blood! hsad originsally beens taken and! the radioactivity remaining in the circulating cells at intervals after injections was compared with that found after inject-ion of unstored, unsfrozens labeled cells. With this method!, itwas possible to obtain insformation about survival of red cells for it few days only, but the results indicate thatduring this period the survival of the control and the 1)reviously frozen red cells was similar.-S.T.(’. THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE ARTERIAL OXYGEN SATuRATION TO CYANOSIS. J. E. Geraci and E. H. Wood. From the Division of Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minni. M. Clin. North America. 1185-1202, 1951. This article is of general interest. It points outthat cyanosis is nsot usually recognized until the arterial oxygen saturation values fall to about 75 per cent-. Othier interest insg data are given concerning the relationship of reduced hemoglobins content to cyanosis.T.R.T., Jr. For personal use only. on October 21, 2017. by guest www.bloodjournal.org From

Introduction: The most important models used in analysis of survival data is proportional hazards models. Applying this model requires establishment of the relevance proportional hazards assumption, otherwise it world lead to incorrect inference. This study aims to evaluate Cox and Weibull models which are used in identification of effective factors on survival time in acute leukemia. Me...

Introduction: The Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX ) is widely used to assess clinical performance because of its practicality. Although initial studies have supported its reliability and validity, the utility of Mini-CEX is under serious debate due to inconsistencies in rater judgments. This study aimed to review the relevant literature on the utility of Mini-CEX in order to find ou...
متن کاملAn Experimental Study on Evaluation of Factors Influencing the Viscosity and Viscoelastic Properties of Waxy Crude Oil
The influences of several operating factors on the viscosity of the Isfahan refinery waxy crude oil sample are studied through conducting some rheological shear rotational tests. The Taguchi design method is adopted to determine the impact of factors such as shear rate, temperature, cooling rate, wax content, and asphaltene content on the viscosity of the waxy crude oil. The results show that t...
